Meet The Team

Elen Evans

Founding Director & Music Therapist

After 20 years working with children and families in children’s nurseries, adventure playgrounds, youth services and family support programmes, Elen studied Music Therapy at Roehampton University. Bringing her knowledge of managing services in the charitable sector and working with communities, Elen established Whale Song in October 2019 to provide music therapy services in her home borough of Waltham Forest. Elen leads on Whale Song’s community programmes and fundraising strategy whilst also delivering music therapy services in local schools.

Karen Poole joined as a Director in 2023 with experience in sales, marketing and fundraising. Now a retired nutritionist, Karen has worked in both the private and voluntary sector in small, medium and large organisations. Karen has also personal experience of caring for a family member and volunteer work with children with a disability. This compassion coupled with her professional experience makes her an excellent advocate for our beneficiaries 

Adam Penman, Director Whale Song

Director

Adam has been a director of Whale Song since May 2025. Adam has been a practicing lawyer for almost a decade, specialising in employment law and data protection law. Adam is a graduate of Sussex University and the London School of Economics and has dedicated part of his professional practice to assisting legal aid clinics with pro bono legal services. “I am incredibly honoured to be asked to be a director of Whale Song and to contribute to Whale Song’s corporate governance and management oversight”.

Clare Shaw, Therapist Whale Song

Clare Shaw

Music Therapist

Clare has been working for Whale Song for almost 3 years and has been working as a Music Therapist for 30 years. Initially, Clare studied music at Essex University and then went on to study Music Therapy at Roehampton University. Clare has worked with adults with learning disabilities and extensively with children with learning disabilities covering a wide range of ages both in special schools and mainstream settings.
